Helpful resources to share on World Amyloidosis Day

October 26 marks World Amyloidosis Day, a time to raise awareness and share knowledge about a rare and often misunderstood disease. At Myeloma Canada, we’re taking this opportunity to shine a light on AL (amyloid light-chain) amyloidosis, a condition closely related to multiple myeloma. Some people living with Al amyloidosis may also be affected by myeloma, so we’ve gathered a collection of resources to help you better understand this condition.

What is AL amyloidosis?

In AL amyloidosis, amyloid protein fibers build up in tissues and organs throughout the body. These deposits can affect the:

  • heart
  • kidneys
  • liver
  • soft tissues
  • nervous system
  • digestive system

This buildup can interfere with how these organs function, leading to a wide range of symptoms.
