Insurance companies extending renewal requirements for authorisations for COVID-19
Great news! Many of the major insurance companies are now extending their ‘prior authorization renewal’ policies for drugs, taking the worry away for having to get new renewals from your healthcare professional. The extensions are in recognition of the fact that it may be difficult, or not recommended, to access your regular healthcare provider for these to be renewed. The norm seems to be a 3-month extension from when the renewal expires.(For new ‘prior authorization requests’, insurance companies are indicating they will still require a ‘prior authorization form’.)
As always, it’s best to check with your own insurance provider for their particular policy on dealing with the current pandemic.
