Turn $350,000 into $700,000 this Giving Tuesday.
Please join my challenge. Your donation could change my future and the future of thousands.
My name is Jérôme Goulet and I was diagnosed with myeloma in 2020 at the age of 44.
The generosity of others is a large part of why I am here today.
Your gift to Myeloma Canada enables them to invest in amazing new myeloma drug therapies I quite literally owe my life to. Starting today, every dollar donated will be matched for double impact and double hope so one day, the words ‘myeloma’ and ‘incurable’ will no longer be spoken together.
My story
In the summer of 2019, I fractured a rib doing a slight movement. After months of medical consultations and tests, in January of 2020 I was finally diagnosed with something called multiple myeloma. I was in shock. I’d never heard of myeloma but quickly learned it was the 2nd most common blood cancerA term for diseases in which malignant cells divide without control. Cancer cells can invade nearby tissues and spread through the bloodstream and lymphatic system to other parts of the body. and is, for now, incurable.
I’ll spare you all of the details since then…the radiation, the stem cellThe basic unit of any living organism./bone marrow transplant, a stem cell transplant that didn’t work, a lung infarction, not to mention the 49 chemotherapyThe treatment of cancer with drugs that kill all rapidly-dividing cells. Treatment with one or more drugs that kill all rapidly-dividing (cancer) cells. Chemotherapy can reduce the number of myeloma cells in the bone marrow and the M-protein they produce. Chemotherapy cannot “cure” myeloma but it may stop it from progressing or getting worse for a period of time. treatments I’ve had so far. Right now, I’m doing well, and for that I am thankful.
No one knows what tomorrow holds. This is especially true for those of us living with myeloma.
But your support today holds promise for a tomorrow.
I can’t begin to describe the blow of being told you have an incurable cancer. I couldn’t help but feel that the countdown to the end of my life had begun. I thought about the 10 year prognosisThe projected outcome or course of a disease; the chance of recovery; the life expectancy. they gave me. I thought about my two daughters…will I be here when they go to university? Will I be at their weddings?
I thought about doing whatever I can to postpone my 10 year prognosis.
I decided to pour my heart into raising awareness and funds for Myeloma Canada and myeloma research . In 2021, “L’Armé de Jé’, was formed and to date, we’ve raised over $350,000 for Myeloma Canada. I’m asking you to double our collective impact by turning this $350,000 into $700,000 for more than 4,100 Canadians like me who are diagnosed with myeloma every year.
Together, we can get closer to a cure, for me, for them, and for those who will one day be diagnosed. Please donate today.
You can turn $350,000 into $700,000.
“The generous support of our donors enables us to invest in promising new research like immunotherapyTreatment that stimulates the body's natural defenses to fight cancer. Also called biological therapy. that is poised to revolutionize the myeloma treatment landscape, and in turn, the lives of people impacted by the disease. The power of your gift today will make a difference in the lives of thousands tomorrow.”
